What is Bissell Scented Water?
Unlike ordinary demineralized water, Bissell-scented water is added into a steam mop when cleaning to add fragrance and aroma to the room. If you have pets in your home, you can add it to the steam mop when cleaning to remove unpleasant smells.
It is available in different varieties such as eucalyptus and mint, citrus, and spring breeze. Buying scented demineralized water is not as cost effective as ordinary distilled or demineralized water.
When choosing scented demineralized water, Bissell and Steam & Go are the two main choices. There are other options you can consider such as boutique style linen or ironing water but these are equally, if not more expensive than Bissell and Steam & Go fragranced water.
Price wise, Bissell and Steam & Go are very similarly priced for the same size bottles.
Other Ways of Adding Scents While Cleaning
Bissell Odor Eliminating Scent Discs
Another way of adding scent to your steam mop is by using the Bissell Odor Eliminating Scent Discs. These scent discs come as a pack of 8 pieces to ensure that you have enough for several weeks.
They are very effective in removing pet odors and other unpleasant smells from the floor. You can use them when cleaning any floor type that is suitable to steam mop.
In the Bissell PowerFresh steam mops, you can place these discs in the tray (Powerfresh Deluxe model) or in the steam mop pad (other Bissell models).
If you don’t have a Bissell steam mop, try placing the disc inside your steam mops microfiber cover instead. Check back regularly to make sure it hasn’t broken apart.
If you don’t want the odor eliminating scent (designed for pets), you can also purchase Spring Breeze scent in a disc.

Each disc is wrapped separately to lock in the scent. This enables them to retain their freshness before you use them. They are very sturdy, easy to use and affordable.
This is a knock off of the Bissell Spring Breeze fragrance discs that actually smell good! They come individually wrapped, and at a cost of less than $1 per disc, is a cheaper way to fragrance your home while you clean.
These lemon scented fragrance discs are also a great choice. Surprisingly, Bissell or Steam & Go haven’t produced a lemon scented fragrance either in a disc or their scented demineralized water.
If you like a fresh citrus scent when cleaning, these are one to try, especially with the bargain price of less than $1 per disc.

Steam Discs You Might Want to Avoid
These Bissell compatible fragrance discs from Maitys are around 55 cents per disc making them an affordable buy. But, you may get what you pay for with these. Here are the biggest consumer complaints:
- Fall apart easily
- No smell or not very strong
- Quality not comparable to branded products
- Clogged the bottom of the steamer as they disintegrated easily
- Scented demineralized water had a stronger, longer lasting smell
So, if you’re wondering why I haven’t recommended the cheapest possible option, that’s why.

I love a lemon scent and will be excited to try out the generic branded fragrance discs. Other than that, Bissell Spring Breeze fragrance is a winner for me. It’s sweet, florally and happy.
Buying scented demineralized water is a little luxury as its not the most cost effective way to clean. Don’t forget that steam has a natural fresh smell too.
My go-to is usually distilled water in my steam cleaner, and essential oils in my diffuser for fragrance. I’ve tried adding essential oils to microfiber cloths, but the heat of the steam changes the scent, so I wouldn’t recommend this.
